The people of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe are the Húŋkpati Oyáte (end of the camp circle) band, mostly descendants of the Mdewakanton Dakota Tribe of south and central present-day Minnesota. They were expelled from Minnesota after all reservations in that state were abolished in December 1862 following the Dakota War. The Crow Creek Sioux reservation is located in parts of BuffaloHughes, and Hyde counties on the east bank of the Missouri River in central South Dakota in the United States.  The tribal headquarters are located in Fort Thompson SD, and consists of three districts, Kahmi Tanka (Big Bend) district, Cunki Cakse (place of cutting wood or fort) Fort Thompson district, and Kangi Okute the Crow Creek district.  Crow Creek Sioux tribal enrollment approximately 3,500 for both on and off reservation members.
